An 8 minute 3D documentary about the origins and the evolution of the universe created for the Planetarium in Turin. The pedagogical priority is to highlight the state of the art of scientific knowledge about the formation of the universe using a realistic graphical representation of the three-dimensional space inside which stars and galaxies move.
For the simulation, numerical models and observational astronomical data have been used along with advanced techniques of volume rendering. In particular, it has been used Splotch, an open source software for ray-tracing, specifically designed to obtain the results of astrophysical simulations in a quick and effective way.
The documetary is also currently visible at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago.
