Cineca is one of the Large Scale Facilities in Europe.
As from the mandate of Italian Ministry of Education Universities and Research, Cineca represents Italy in PRACE (the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), as Tier-0 site.
Cineca's supercomputer Marconi, based on a Lenovo architecture, is ranked among the most powerful in the world in the Top500 list. In 2021 a new supercomputer will be installed: LEONARDO. The project for the Leonardo system, that projects Italy towards the exascale class of high performance computing for research and innovation, was presented by Cineca representing Italy in agreement with the Ministry of Education, University and Research, the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) and the International School of Advanced Studies (SISSA) and approved by the European Joint Undertaking EuroHPC. Leonardo will be one of the five most powerful supercomputers in the world and will be hosted in the site made available by the Emilia-Romagna Region at the Bologna Tecnopolo.
Cineca's hardware resources are the most powerful available in Italy. Users can find a catalog of software programs for different jobs and disciplines, a powerful and efficent network for local and external connection and, last but not least, people with a wide range of expertise that can help scientists and researchers, both from the technological and scientific point of view.
Cineca takes care of the hosting, system management, as well as code optimisation and parallelisation, with the aim of supporting the activity of public and private researchers in Italy.
