The 10th and the 11th of October 2022 at the CINECA headquarter, took place the first national workshop of the EBRAINS Italian Community (EIC). The aim was to define the roadmap, activities, and objectives of the incoming EBRAINS National Node, to discuss the strategic development of the EBRAINS-Italy Research Infrastructure, to collect feedbacks from active collaborations of EIC members in national and EU projects, to agree about a national sustainability plan, and to support the Italian Representatives in the EBRAINS AISBL in order to increase the offer of new services and technical solution to national and EU communities.

The development of the community is based on the experience gained within the Human Brain Project (2012-2023). The EIC, founded in December 2021, is now made by more than 25 representatives of the most important Italian clinics, hospitals, universities and national research institutes, including Cineca: Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, European Brain Research Institute Rita Levi-Montalcini, Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, Laboratorio Europeo di Spettroscopie Non Lineari, Politecnico di Torino, Scuola Normale Superiore, Scuola Superiore di Studi Universitari e di Perfezionamento Sant'Anna, Università degli Studi di Milano, Università degli Studi di Pavia, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, Politecnico di Milano, Sapienza Università di Roma, Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati.

The main purpose of these institutions is to strengthen national collaborations and identify possible synergies among multidisciplinary fields of neuroscience. In fact, this initiative will impact directly on Medicine, Brain Disease, Robotics, AI, Big Data and Brain Simulation Models fields making Italy one of the most important drivers of neuroscience international landscape.
