Leading European supercomputing centres join forces in procurement process for innovative HPC systems

European HPC centres have officially opened a market consultation for the purchase of HPC systems as part of the Public Procurement of Innovative Solutions for High-Performance Computing (PPI4HPC) project. It involves four public procurers: BSC, CINECA, FZJ/JSC and GENCI in Spain, Italy, Germany and France.

The Italian proposal is considered the best from the point of view of the requirements and the overall interests of ECMWF. Council mandated Director-General Florence Rabier to prepare a high-level agreement with the Italian Government, for approval by Council at its next session. The Italian proposal would see the future ECMWF data centre located in Bologna (Italy).
