Cineca supports the new release of DSpace 4.0

Cineca has been collaborating with the DSpace Community for many years, becoming one of the “main contributors” thanks to the work and the professionalism of its employees.
DSpace is today the most important open source software for managing “repositories”. Indeed, more than 1000 institutions worldwide are currently using this solution.

The preview (RC1) of the new DSpace 4.0 is now available. Many developers from all over the World have been working together on this release, and Cineca was part of the official “Release Team”.

There are several new features included in the new version:

  • A new look and feel for JSPUI, with several other improvements;
  • A number of features of XMLUI have been ported to JSPUI;
  • A REST API exposing repository objects;
  • Support for automatically creating DOIs during ingestion.

The preview of DSpace 4.0 can already be downloaded (https://sourceforge.net/projects/dspace/) and the official website of the open source project has been updated in order to allow the public test until November 15th, 2013.
The final version of the software is supposed to be released on December 4th, 2013.
Cineca is proud of its collaboration with the DSpace Community and the Consortium will keep on supporting the development of this software, which is also a crucial component of one of its solution for the Italian Universities.
