PRACE winter school

Follow the Prace Winter School in STREAMING LIVE!!

The PRACE Winter School is an intense, 5 day, graduate level course in high performance computing, organized in the framework of the European project PRACE (http://www.prace-ri.eu).

The school is aimed at PRACE users, final year master students, PhD students, and young researchers in computational sciences and engineering, with different backgrounds, interested in applying the emerging technologies on high performance computing to their research. The school will cover the following topics:

• Massively parallel architectures: BlueGene, hybrid clusters
• Accelerators (NVIDIA GPU, Intel MIC)
• Advanced MPI
• Hybrid programming with OpenMP
• Hybrid programming with CUDA
• Towards new hybrid solutions with MPI: TBB.

Some use cases will also be presented.

The number of participants is limited to 40 students. Applicants will be selected according to their experience and qualifications. Knowledge of a high level programming language (C/C++ or FORTRAN) is required, as well as a working experience in parallel programming with MPI.

Attendance is free. Grants are available for participants not funded by their institution and not coming from the Bologna area. Their value will be up to 200 EUR for italians and 300 EUR for non italians. Lunch will be provided by CINECA. Each student will be given a two month access to the CINECA's supercomputing resources.

Professional stages: In order to complete the training, up to 3 partecipants could be offered an apprenticeship of 3 months at CINECA. The applicants will be involved in the development of computational projects and will receive a financial contribution of 600 EUR per month.

How to reach us: The school will be held at the CINECA supercomputing center, via Magnanelli 6/3, Casalecchio di Reno (Bologna), from monday to friday of each week. CINECA is located 9 Km from the Bologna Airport, 12 Km from the centre of Bologna.  More details.

Accommodation: we can propose you a list of hotels in the neighborhood or in Bologna. If the hotel has an agreement with CINECA, specify you are attending the school at booking time in order to obtain a discounted rate.
