ResearchItaly: Italian research by click

20 March 2013

On the 19th of March, the Italian Minister of Education, University and Research (MIUR) Francesco Profumo, presented ResearchItaly, the new web portal of the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) established in order to map, support and promote high-quality Italian research, wherever it is performed: in Italy, in Europe or in the world.

The project has been developed by Cineca, who takes care of the technical development, and the editorial management. It places research at the core of a new plan for the cultural and economic growth of Italy. This by bringing into a coherent system the best of the Italian production in the different fields of knowledge and aligning Italy to the best practices developed at the European level.

Available in two languages, Italian and English, ResearchItaly represents in the Italian and European landscape the new web-portal of Italian research, capable of speaking and create networks among different audiences identified by the four sections of the portal:

  • citizens (UNDERSTANDING),
  • businesses and public administrations (INNOVATING),
  • students and teachers in primary and secondary high schools (EXPLORING),
  • researchers or persons whose profession deals with research (RESEARCHING).

Starting from today, 19th March 2013, the section Understanding - devoted to citizens and enriched with contributions from the public research bodies under the vigilance of the MIUR - is online. It is complemented by a first release of Researching, devoted to those who perform research activities.

The work to further develop the portal will continue in the coming months with the publication of new content and the development of new services. An expert editorial staff will ensure that the content of the portal is up to date and all the entities interested to the different aspects of innovation will have the opportunity to further develop the portal. From a technical point of view new social functions will be implemented and the opportunities to integrate ResearchItaly with other digital environments, projects and websites on research will be explored. Great attention will also be devoted to the open data, to provide information regarding projects financed by public funds, which respond to a long term and innovative vision of the Ministry aimed at better communicating research to the wider public.

The objective is to make ResearchItaly the single entry point for research in Italy and innovative and participatory instrument through which everyone will have the opportunity to understand, experiment and explore the variegated and diverse world of research.
